Mityana woman confesses to killing 5-year-old stepson
The police in Mityana have arrested two suspects for allegedly participating in the murder of a 5-year-old child.
Asp Racheal Kawala PRO Wamala identified the deceased as Ssempija Jordan a pupil in primary one at Kiryokya Church of Uganda primary school.
The suspects are Nakayiki Rachel the child’s stepmother and Tumusiime Ronald.
The murder happened in Kiryokya, Kalangalo sub-county, Mityana district.
Preliminary findings indicate that from 7/02/2022, Nakayiki was seen several times following and talking to the child while on his way to school and promising the deceased chapati and soda.
On 11/02/2022 at 7 am while on his way to school with colleagues, Ssempija found the same woman on the way near the school. She called the child and remained with her while the rest proceeded to school.
The child was not seen again. The matter was reported to Kiryokya police post and a case of kidnap was registered.
However, on 12/02/2022 Nakayi handed herself over to the area chairperson and confessed to killing her stepson.
She also revealed that she had dumped the body in a bush near eucalyptus trees and that she had hired a man identified as Tumusime Ronald whom she paid 20,000 Uganda shillings to do the work for her.
The next day, the area chairperson informed the police who picked the two suspects Nakayiki and Tumusime, and immediately mounted a search that led to the recovery of the decomposing body of Ssempija from the bush under eucalyptus trees.
The body was handed over to the Mityana hospital mortuary for postmortem.
The two suspects remain in custody at Mityana police and will be charged with murder.
