Warder on the Run After Killing Three Supervisors at Kiboga Prison

Three people have been shot dead in an incident that occurred today, 23rd February 2026, at Kiboga Prison in Kiboga District after a warder reportedly opened fire on his supervisors.

The deceased have been identified as Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Hope Catherine, the Deputy Officer in Charge; Principal Officer I Akishuri Bright, the third in command; and Ms. Ayebare Sarah, the spouse of the Officer in Charge.

According to Frank Baine, spokesperson of the Uganda Prisons Service, the incident occurred at about 10:00 a.m. when No. 13544 Warder Anguyo Moses allegedly turned his weapon on his supervisors, killing them instantly.

Following the shooting, the suspect fled the facility.

“The Police were immediately notified and secured the crime scene. Joint security teams are currently pursuing the suspect. Although the firearm used in the shooting has been recovered, the suspect remains at large and should be considered dangerous,” Baine said.

He urged members of the public with any information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.
