Vandal Dies While Tampering With High-Voltage Power Tower in Mukono
Police in Mukono District are investigating an incident in which a suspected electricity vandal died while attempting to dismantle a high-voltage power transmission tower in Nakapinyi Village, Kasenge Parish, Nama Subcounty.
The incident is believed to have occurred during the nights of 18th and 19th November 2025, when a group of unidentified individuals allegedly targeted a transmission tower connected to the Namawojolo power sub-station. During the act, one of the vandals reportedly became trapped within the angle bars of the tower and died instantly. His body, dressed in blue overalls, was later discovered hanging on the structure.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, theDeputy PRO Kampala Metropolitan Police, also confirmed damage to a second tower located about half a kilometre from the scene.
A case has been registered at Mukono Police Division, and a joint team of Uganda Police Force officers and Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) personnel has since examined the site. Investigators recorded statements from residents, documented the scene, and launched task teams to track down the remaining suspects.
Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased was part of a group attempting to cut and collapse the high-voltage tower (pyron), resulting in his fatal entrapment.
Owoyesigyire says efforts are underway to safely retrieve the body for post-mortem examination and proper profiling.
Police are also working to establish the motive behind the attempted vandalism, identify all individuals involved, and ensure they face prosecution.
