UPDF Elects 10 Representatives to Serve in 12th Parliament
The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has elected 10 representatives who will legislate on behalf of the army during the next five-year term of the 12th Parliament, which will commence in May 2026.
The announcement of the election exercise, which was chaired by the Commander-in-Chief (CIC), President Yoweri K. Museveni, and held at the Land Forces Headquarters in Bombo, Luweero District, was shared by the Force’s spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, on Wednesday night.
“The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces, through its Defence Forces Council Electoral College, has today elected the 10 military representatives for the upcoming parliamentary term from 2026 to 2031,” Magezi said in a statement published on his official X account.
He added that the UPDF, in accordance with the Constitution and the Parliamentary Elections Act, is one of the special interest groups represented in the Parliament of Uganda. The other special interest groups include district or city women representatives, workers’ representatives, youth representatives, and persons with disabilities.
The 10 UPDF Members of Parliament elected are:
- Lt Gen Sam Okiding – Deputy Chief of Defence Forces and Inspector General
- Lt Gen Sam Kavuma – Deputy Coordinator, Operation Wealth Creation
- Lt Gen James Mugira – Managing Director, National Enterprise Corporation
- Maj Gen Henry Masiko – Joint Staff Political Commissar
- Maj Gen James Kinalwa – Joint Staff Human Resource Management
- Maj Gen Joseph Ssemwanga – Deputy Commander, Land Forces
- Brig Gen David Gonyi – Chief of Staff, Air Force
- Col Night Ikiriza (female) – Air Force
- Col Sylvia Meeme (female) – Special Forces Command
- Col Christine Nekesa (female) – Military Police
