UPDF breaks silence on men who assaulted traffic cop
The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Force, UPDF has released a statement about the men who assaulted the traffic police officers who were on duty.
The incident happened on Monday 9/5/2022 around Mukwano Mall when a Military Police soldier who was part of a team in vehicle Reg. No. H4DF B02 were involved in a scuffle with officers from their sister agency who were manning traffic.
In a statement, the Defence spokesperson Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye called the incident regrettable and extended regrets to the affected persons.
“The incident is regrettable and we extend our regrets to the affected persons, the traffic department and Uganda Police in general. Investigations to establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident have commenced and the findings will guide on our next course of action,” says Kulayigye.
He adds that the actions of the soldiers are reprehensible and are not representative of UPDF as an institution that is known for its discipline and being the peoples’ army.
“UPDF reiterates its commitment to the rule of law as guided by the Constitution and the UPDF Code of Conduct”.
