UCU Students Killed in Bweyogerere as Trailer Crashes Woman in Mukono

Four people have been confirmed dead in two separate road crashes that occurred in Mukono Municipality and Bweyogerere between October 23 and 24, 2025, police have reported.

The first accident happened late Thursday night, October 23, 2025, where three people died at Shire Petrol Station, Bweyogerere, along the Kampala–Jinja Highway.

The crash, which occurred at about 10:20 p.m., involved a Toyota Hiace (UAV 453W) and a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle (UGB 771P).

According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, SSP Patrick Onyango, the motorcycle rider and two passengers, identified as Murungi Laurine Mugume and Britten Treasure, both 22-year-old students at Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mukono, died on the spot.

Police suspect the driver of the Toyota Hiace, who fled the scene, of reckless driving. Both vehicles have been towed to Bweyogerere Police Station for further examination as investigations continue.

Onyango appealed to all motorists and riders to respect traffic regulations and avoid reckless manoeuvres that endanger lives.

In a Separate incident, today, October 24, 2025, at around 9:00 a.m. another accident occurred at Lands Junction along the Kampala–Jinja Highway in Mukono District. It involved a Mercedes Benz semi-trailer registration number SSD 842Z/SSD 336Z driven by Ibrahim Abdullahi, a 45-year-old Somali national who was en route to Sudan.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, SSP Patrick Onyango, the trailer allegedly struck an unidentified motorcycle rider who was overtaking from the left and suddenly braked, causing Namulondo Mary, 43, a passenger, to fall under the trailer’s rear left tire. She died instantly.

Preliminary investigations attribute the cause of the crash to reckless riding by the unidentified motorcyclist, who fled the scene and remains at large. The semi-trailer has been impounded and parked at the Mukono Police Yard pending inspection, while the deceased’s body was taken to Kawolo Hospital for a postmortem examination.
