Two Killed in Separate Road Crashes in Budaka and Kibuku Districts
The police in Budaka and Kibuku districts are investigating two separate fatal road crashes that occurred on Sunday, October 26, 2025, claiming two lives.
According to ASP Kyempasa Wilfred the PRO – Bukedi North Region, the first incident occurred at around 4:30 p.m. at Kamonkoli Town Council along the Mbale–Tirinyi Road in Budaka District. The crash involved two red Bajaj Boxer motorcycles, registration numbers UMA 623E and UFE 220J.
Preliminary investigations indicate that both riders were travelling from the Mbale side towards Budaka when the rider of motorcycle UFE 220J made a sudden turn into a petrol station on the right.
The other rider, who was following closely behind on motorcycle UMA 623E, collided with the front tyre of the first motorcycle, lost control, and hit his head on the tarmac, dying instantly.
Police identified reckless riding and abrupt turning as the cause of the crash. The body of the deceased, who is yet to be identified, was conveyed to Budaka Health Centre IV for postmortem examination. Both motorcycles have been impounded and are parked at Budaka Central Police Station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).
In a separate incident, police in Kibuku District registered another fatal accident at Saala along the Iganga–Mbale Highway. The crash, which occurred on the same day, involved an unidentified speeding vehicle that killed a pedestrian before fleeing the scene.
ASP Kyempasa identified the deceased as Augustus, a 53-year-old resident of Bwibere Village, Nampiido Parish, Nabiswa Sub-county, and a Muyoli by tribe. It is alleged that Augustus was walking home from Saala, facing the Mbale direction, when he was hit by the speeding vehicle at the point where he was about to branch off the main road.
The scene was visited by AIP Oumo Joshua and PC Mutome, who documented the scene and drew a sketch plan. The body was later taken to the deceased’s home, pending postmortem examination.
Police have urged road users to exercise caution and avoid reckless manoeuvres that endanger lives.
