Two Dead, 16 Injured in Arua Road Crash

The territorial police in Arua are investigating the cause of an accident that left two people dead and 16 others injured.

The accident occurred at Oceko village, Bondo Arivu Subcounty, along the Bondo-Logiri Road in Arua District. It involved a motor vehicle, registration number UBB 434Q, a white Mitsubishi Canter, driven by an unknown driver who fled the scene.

SP Asea Collins, the PRO and RCLO for West Nile, identified the deceased as Acidri, 16, and Maguma Francis, 17, both Okavo Cell, Ayivu West Division, Arua City residents. The two, who were passengers in the vehicle, died on the spot.

It is alleged that on Thursday, Okuci Simon, the father of the deceased, hired the vehicle to transport his harvested cassava from the garden. After loading, they all boarded the same vehicle. However, upon reaching Oceko village, the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn, killing the two brothers instantly and leaving 16 others with serious injuries.

The injured were transported to Arua Referral Hospital for medical treatment as investigations into the incident continue. The cause of the accident is reckless driving.
