Two Brothers Drown in Budaka Stream

Police in Budaka District are investigating a tragic incident in which two brothers drowned while swimming in a stream in Tademere Sub-county on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Mbulambago Denis, 14, and his younger brother Mbulambago Pison Christopher, 7, both residents of Bugade Village, Tademere Sub-county.

According to preliminary reports, the boys went swimming in a stream at Nalugondo Village at around 12:00 p.m. on September 17, 2025, in the company of another child, identified as Kulaila, 13.

Bukedi North Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Wilfred Kyempasa says Pison entered the water first but was swept away by the current. When Denis saw his younger brother struggling, he jumped in to rescue him, but both were overpowered and drowned. Their companion, Kulaila, immediately ran home to inform the parents, who alerted residents. Local divers managed to retrieve Denis’s body, while the search for Pison’s body is still ongoing.

The incident was reported by Kutosi George, the LC1 Chairperson of Bugade Village. Police visited the scene, documented it, and recorded statements from witnesses and first responders. Denis’s body was conveyed to hospital for a postmortem examination.

Kyempasa said efforts are continuing to recover the second body.
