Tragedy: Three Children Die in Kawempe House Fire

Police in Kawempe Division are investigating a tragic fire outbreak that claimed the lives of three children on July 31, 2025, at around 11:00 a.m. in Kirokole Zone, Kawempe Division, Kampala District.

The fire broke out in a residential house occupied by six family members, including four children and two adults. The family belongs to Ssenyonga Gerald, a boda boda rider who operates mainly at night.

According to SSP Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, the exact cause of the fire is yet to be established. However, preliminary reports suggest that a charcoal stove was in use for cooking while a motorcycle was parked inside the same single-roomed house.

“Unfortunately, three female juveniles died in the fire,” SSP Onyango said. “Ssenyonga Gerald, his wife, and one child were rushed to Kiruddu Hospital for medical treatment.”

The police and fire brigade responded promptly and managed to extinguish the flames, but not before the fire had destroyed the family’s property.

Scene-of-crime officers were dispatched, statements were taken from neighbours, and samples were collected for forensic analysis. Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
