TikToker Arrested for Spreading False News on MP Nsibambi’s Death

Police in Kampala have arrested a TikTok content creator, Jingo Nassif, for allegedly spreading false information about the death of Hon. Yusuf Nsibambi, the Member of Parliament for Mawokota South.

According to police, Nassif was allegedly paid Shs 100,000 by some of the legislator’s political opponents to publish the fake news on his social media account to tarnish Nsibambi’s image.

The MP reported the matter to the police, which led to Nassif’s arrest. He was detained at Central Police Station (CPS), Kampala and charged under the Computer Misuse Act. During interrogation, Nassif reportedly confessed to the crime and revealed he had been hired by Nsibambi’s rivals to discredit the legislator.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango confirmed the arrest, warning the public against misusing social media to spread misinformation.

“We caution members of the public to use social media responsibly and desist from accepting payments to damage someone’s reputation online, especially during this political period where such tactics are increasingly being used,” SSP Onyango said.

Police said investigations are ongoing to establish and apprehend the individuals behind the scheme.
