Three Suspects Arrested in Connection to the Murder of Retired Teacher in Sheema
The police in Greater Bushenyi, at Sheema Police Station, are investigating a case of murder and aggravated robbery involving Nyehangane Godfrey Tabandama, a 72-year-old retired teacher and resident of Nyamiyaga Cell, Kakunyu Ward, Kabwohe Division, Sheema Municipality, Sheema District.
The incident occurred during the night of September 18-19, 2024, at Nyamiyaga Cell, Kakunyu Ward, Kabwohe Division.
According to Martial Tumusiime, the PRO of Greater Bushenyi, three suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the murder. The suspects are identified as Magezi Victor (22) and Turyasingura Stuart (20), both herdsmen for the deceased, and Kato Stephen (17), a juvenile student and worker at the deceased’s home.
A police canine was deployed at the crime scene, leading officers to the room of the suspects, where the canine specifically identified Magezi Victor by grabbing him.
Tumusiime stated that after killing the deceased, the suspects robbed household items, including a TV and his phone.
The body was found face down with the legs tied using pins meant for connecting the TV set. There were no observable physical injuries apart from the tied legs.
Statements have been recorded from various witnesses to aid the investigation, and the body was taken to Kabwohe Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.
Efforts are ongoing to trace other possible assailants and establish the motive behind the murder.
