Three shot dead as security operatives rescue pastor Byarisya from kidnappers

A joint team of security operatives has shot and killed three men and rescued Pastor Mary Byarisya who was kidnapped from Gomba District for the ransom of 30 million shillings.

Byarisya was abducted by unknown assailants on 06/02/2023.

ASP Kasasira Samson the PRO Rwizi says that the assailants were tracked down along the Mbarara-Ibanda road at Ruhumba, Rubindi Town Council Mbarara District at around 07:00 pm on 13/02/2023.

They were intercepted travelling in motor vehicle UAZ 935N Toyota Premio but attempted to resist arrest and even run over police officers before grabbing their guns.

This prompted the officers to shoot at the assailants killing them instantly.

The officers have since identified the deceased as Behakanira Andrew alias Bashir and two others whose identities are still unknown.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem and identification, while the victim is undergoing medical examinations before she can be reunited with her family.
