Three Killed in Electrocution Incident During Church Crusade in Bushenyi

The police in Bushenyi District are investigating an incident in which three people died after being electrocuted during a church crusade.

The tragedy occurred on 5th September 2025 at Kashenyi Market in Kiruhura Village, Ryeishe Parish, Ibaare Sub-county. The crusade had been organized by Rock Ministries Church.

The deceased have been identified as: Atuhweere Blessed, 23, a resident of Mugaga Village, Kayonza Sub-county in Ntungamo District, Narutazari Waiswa, 48, a resident of Kinyemi Village, Mutala Sub-county in Mitooma District, and  Rwakisheija William, 43, a resident of Rwenkyenkye Village, Bumbaire Sub-county in Bushenyi District.

One other person, Mulekwa Nathan, 40, survived with injuries, though his whereabouts for treatment remain unclear.

According to SP Tayebwa Apollo, the Regional Police PRO for Greater Bushenyi, preliminary findings indicate that the victims were electrocuted when the metal tip of a tent being moved came into contact with a three-phase high-voltage power line.

Police further noted that the organizers of the crusade had not notified security agencies in advance.

“We handed over the bodies to KIU Teaching Hospital mortuary in Ishaka for postmortem to establish the exact cause of death,” SP Tayebwa confirmed.
