Three Dead, Two Critically Injured in Masaka Road Accident

Three people have been confirmed dead and two others critically injured following a road accident at Kigo Village, Ssunga Parish, Bukakata Subcounty in Masaka District.

The deceased have been identified as Kajoba Godfrey, Salongo, and one unidentified adult male. The injured—two unidentified men—were rushed to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for emergency treatment.

All the victims were passengers aboard a Mitsubishi Canter, registration number UAK 230J.

The incident occurred on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at around 1:30 PM. According to police reports, the vehicle was traveling from Masaka to Bukakata, loaded with assorted goods and five people riding on top of the cargo, when it lost control.

SP Twaha Kasirye, the Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson, said the accident happened as the vehicle approached Kigo Trading Centre. A herd of cows was crossing the road, prompting the driver to swerve sharply to avoid hitting them. The vehicle veered off the road, lost control, and overturned—killing three of the passengers riding on top of the goods and seriously injuring the remaining two.

Fortunately, the driver and two women who were seated in the front cabin of the vehicle escaped unhurt.

The bodies of the deceased were transported to Masaka Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem examination.
