Three Dead, 19 Injured in Fatal Road Crash on Kampala–Gulu Highway

Three people, including a two-week-old baby, died in a road crash that occurred on the evening of October 28, 2025, at around 8:35 PM in Binyonyi Zone, near the weighbridge along the Kampala–Gulu Highway in Luweero District.

ASP Sam Twiineamazima, the PRO Savannah Region, told this publication that the accident involved a red and white Yutong bus belonging to ECO Company, registration number SSD 251Z, which was travelling from Gulu to Kampala, and a white Mitsubishi Canter truck, registration number UAV 920Q.

According to preliminary police reports, the bus driver allegedly recklessly overtook three vehicles before drifting into the opposite lane, where it collided head-on with the Mitsubishi Canter.

Twiineamazima says that the impact claimed the lives of all three occupants of the truck, identified as Nyongo Musa Moses (driver), his wife, Nakanyike Swabura, and their two-week-old baby, Kintu Fazil.

Following the collision, the bus overturned into a trench on the opposite side of the road, leaving several passengers with critical and minor injuries. The driver of the bus reportedly fled the scene immediately after the crash.

The spokesperson says that officers from the Savannah Region responded to the scene and evacuated 19 people who were injured to Luweero Referral Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Luweero Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.

He appealed to all motorists to exercise caution, avoid reckless overtaking, and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent further loss of lives on Uganda’s roads.
