Three Arrested Over Death of 24-Year-Old Man in Rukungiri

Police in Rukungiri District have arrested three suspects in connection with the death of a 24-year-old man who was allegedly assaulted at a local bar.

The deceased has been identified as Kakuru Gidion, also known as Hakizimana Kaboy. He was reportedly attacked in the early hours of July 27, 2025, at around 3:00 am in Kanyankyende Cell, Nyabitete Parish, Bugangari Sub-county.

According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, the suspects have been identified as Nsimire Justine, Ndyamuhaki Posiano, and Murokozi John.

Maate said preliminary investigations indicate that on the evening of July 26, 2025, Ndyamuhaki and Murokozi were at a bar owned by their sister, Nsimire Justine, located in Kanyankyende Trading Centre. They were joined by other patrons, including the deceased, who was reportedly in a romantic relationship with Nsimire.

It is alleged that Kakuru attempted to make advances towards Nsimire at the bar in the presence of her brothers, which sparked a violent altercation. The two men allegedly assaulted him, leaving him unconscious.

The area Chairperson, Habaasa Wilber, who was alerted about the incident, responded and rushed the victim to a nearby health facility. Unfortunately, he died en route to the hospital.

The case was reported to Bugangari Police Station. Officers visited and documented the scene, and the suspects were arrested to aid in ongoing investigations.

The body of the deceased was taken to Rwakabengo Health Centre III mortuary for a postmortem examination.
