Teachers and Officials Arrested Over Exam Irregularities in Masaka Regio

The Uganda Police in the Greater Masaka Region have recorded several cases of examination malpractice during the ongoing Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), which began on Monday, 3rd November 2025. The incidents, which occurred in different districts, involved teachers, UNEB officials, and candidates.

According to SP Kasirye Twaaha, the PRO Greater Masaka Region, in Masaka district, 8 teachers at St. Kizito Butenzi Primary School were arrested after being caught red-handed writing answers for candidates and coaching them on Social Studies questions.

The suspects, identified as Ngobya Jackson, Kavuma Ashiraf, Juuko Misaaki, Kyusa Ronald, Mubiru Isma, Ssempijja Michael, Turyasingura Adam, and Waiswa Sharif, had evidence collected at the scene to support the case.

In Rakai, Katende Noah was arrested at St. Raphael Mbuye Primary School for impersonating a UNEB scout despite not being officially recognised.

In Masaka City (Kimanya–Kabonera Division), authprities are hunting for Asiimwe Robert, who allegedly attempted to bribe a UNEB monitor in an effort to influence the examination process.

Meanwhile, 6 UNEB officials were arrested at Kyotera Central Primary School in Kyotera District after a routine inspection uncovered a candidate in possession of a small paper containing Social Studies answers.

The arrested officials include: Mulindwa Sulait, Nansango Sylvia, Ssekitoleko Gonzaga, and Nakityo Harriet, all invigilators. Others are Nasamula Annet, a chief invigilator, and a scout identified as Lubega John.

Kasirye says that all suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
