Taxi Driver Arrested After TikTok Stunt Goes Viral
The police have arrested the driver of a taxi, registration number UAZ 910B, following a trending TikTok video showing a man dangerously seated on a wooden chair on top of the vehicle.
According to SP Kananura Michael, CLO, Traffic Police, the incident occurred in Nsambya, in an area where there was no active traffic deployment. However, upon discovering the circulating video, the police used CCTV footage to trace the vehicle, which was later impounded. The driver and the conductor are currently being held at Kabalagala Police Station.
Kananura told The UGPost that preliminary investigations indicate the man on top of the vehicle is a TikTok content creator who allegedly paid UGX 20,000 to the driver and conductor to facilitate the unlawful act.
Both the driver and conductor are being charged with carrying a person in a dangerous manner, contrary to Section 117 (1) and (2) of the Traffic and Road Safety Act (CAP. 347).
Meanwhile, the search is ongoing for the TikToker involved, who will also face charges under the same section of the law for agreeing to be carried dangerously on top of the vehicle.
All suspects will be arraigned in court at an appropriate time to face the charges.
“We strongly condemn such reckless acts that endanger road safety under the guise of comedy or content creation. We urge the public to exercise responsibility and caution at all times. No life should be put at risk for the sake of entertainment. Let us all prioritize safety on our roads,” said Kananura.
