Suspects in Former Masindi DHO Murder Case Further Remanded to Hoima Prison

The three suspects implicated in the murder of former Masindi District Health Officer-DHO Dr. Jino Abiriga have been further remanded to Hoima Government Prison.

Identified as Betty Cherotich, the deceased’s wife, Joshua Namureng, a builder from Tarobya Village in Bukwo District, and Martin Kipsang, a carpenter from Roruk Village in Bukwo District, the suspects appeared before Masindi Chief Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning.

State Prosecutor Munanura Arinaitwe Aganyira informed the court that investigations are ongoing, requesting additional time to complete the process.

Originally scheduled for remand at Masindi Prison, the suspects opted for Hoima Prison citing security concerns. This marks their fourth court appearance.

The alleged crime, which occurred on January 7, 2024, involved the suspects and accomplices, who purportedly conspired to murder Dr. Abiriga. His body was discovered near his residence in Kijura North cell, Central Division of Masindi Municipality.

Following the incident, law enforcement agencies, including the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence operatives, launched a pursuit resulting in Cherotich’s arrest in Masindi, while Namureng and Kipsang were apprehended in Bukwo District.

Masindi Chief Magistrate Kosia Kasibayo ordered the suspects to remain in custody until March 21, 2024, the date of their next court appearance.
