Suspects Confess to Robbery of 35 Million Shillings in Mityana

Police in Mityana have detained three suspects in connection with an aggravated robbery that occurred on August 3, 2024, in Mizigo Cell, Central Division, Mityana District, at approximately 4:00 AM.

According to Racheal Kawala, the Public Relations Officer for Wamala Region, it is alleged that on the aforementioned date, a group of unknown individuals, wearing face masks and armed with pangas, torches, and sticks, attacked 27-year-old businessman Shema Samuel at his rented house at the specified location.

The assailants robbed him of two mobile phones (an iPhone XS Max and a Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus) and 35 million shillings in cash. During the robbery, they threatened to kill him if he raised an alarm. They gained access to the house by scaling the wall fence.

The victim reported the incident to Mityana Police Station, and investigations began immediately.

Following the report, three suspects were arrested, identified as Kyagulanyi David, 23 years old, Ssebutinde John Bosco, 22 years old, and Makumbi Geoffrey, 24 years old, all residents of Kinvunikide in Mityana District.

Kawala stated that the suspects were apprehended on September 24, 2024, through intelligence-led operations. Upon their arrest, they confessed to the crime and informed police officers that they had shared the stolen money.

A search was conducted at the location where the suspects claimed to have hidden their tools used in the robbery. The recovered items included a hammer, pliers, one large torch, two small torches, one pair of desert shoes, one pair of gumboots, and four hooded jumpers.

Preliminary findings indicate that after sharing the money, each suspect purchased a motorcycle, new clothes, and shoes. Two motorcycles, registration numbers UFW 866V (Bajaj Boxer) and UFS 346Z (Bajaj Boxer), have been recovered, along with the new clothes, which have been exhibited as evidence.

A case file has been compiled and is pending submission to the Resident State Attorney for possible sanctioning.
