Suspect Arrested After Attempted Robbery in Najjera

Police in the Kampala Metropolitan area have arrested a suspected robber accused of targeting bank customers using motorcycles.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the suspect has been identified as Wagaba Hussen, a 27-year-old resident of Kayunga in Wakiso District.

Owoyesigyire said the suspect was arrested on Friday, March 6, 2026, following an attempted robbery in Najjera.

The victim, Nakawome Deborah, 27, reportedly withdrew UGX 21 million from a bank in Ntinda before hiring a boda boda to return home in Buwaate.

Police said that upon reaching Najeera, a few metres from the police station opposite Stabex International fuel station, another motorcycle approached at high speed. The passenger on the motorcycle allegedly grabbed the victim’s bag containing the cash.

The victim raised an alarm, prompting nearby police officers to respond immediately.

One of the suspects, who was riding a motorcycle, escaped due to heavy traffic, making it unsafe for officers to pursue him. However, the suspect who grabbed the bag was arrested on the spot, and the UGX 21 million was recovered.

The suspect is currently detained at Najjera Police Station as investigations continue. Police say efforts are underway to track down and arrest the accomplice.
