Soldier drowns in swimming pool at National Defence College

The Police in Njeru are investigating circumstances under which no R/A 264221 Private Kiyungi Ivan 26yrs a soldier attached to National Defence College drowned in a swimming pool.

The incident occurred at around 1230/c on Saturday 22/10/2022 at the National Defence College in Mukwanya cell Njeru West Njeru Central division Njeru Municipality Buikwe district.

According to Hellen Butoto the Pro Ssezibwa Region, it is alleged that the deceased was seen entering the swimming pool by his friend Sempa James who was standing at a distance. He called other officers for help but it was too late.

The deceased’s body was removed from the swimming pool and conveyed to National Defence College Hospital, before being taken to Jinja Regional referral hospital mortuary for postmortem.

Butoto says Police visited the scene and documented it in the presence of the army officers.
