Shock has gripped Sikhendu village Sikhendu parish Bukiabi sub-county in Namisindwa District after a 24-year-old man died in a challenge to drink 12 bottles of Kakasa Kombucha drink, an alcohol brand from Kenya.
The deceased has been identified as Rober Welikhe.

According to Michael Koyi, one of the residents, the competition was organized by Augustus Wete one of the local traders in the Riverside trading center at Bukiabi Sub County.
He noted that Wete staked Uganda Shillings 10,000 for whoever would down 12 bottles of Kakasa Kombucha drink.

According to Koyi, Welikhe took on the challenge since he has been a known drinker in the area. He explains that all was well until Welikhe, reached the 8th bottle.
He collapsed, prompting residents to rush him to Lwakhakha Mercy Clinic for treatment but he died on the way.

Local authorities are now hunting for Wete and those who were behind the competition. By press time, angry locals had dumped the deceased’s body at Wete’s home.
