Shock as 13 year old child drowns, dies in community pond
A 13-year-old child has drowned and died in a community pond in Lwengo district
The child has been identified as Jonathan Ssemwogere, a resident of Kyassonko village, Busubi parish, Kisekka sub-county.
He passed today, leaving the community members in shock.
Ssemwogerere who had started bricklaying to make some money due to closure of schools, had gone to collect water when he decided to cool off in the pond where he drowned.
Jeremy Ssemuli the Kyassonko LCI chairperson says residents who had gone to fetch water from the pond found his body floating. This is the first drowning incident in the area.
Residents say children have on several occasions been rescued from these same ponds and cautioned not to swim in it but their counsel is generally ignored.
The police responded to the scene, retrieved the body, and later gave it to the family members for burial.
The Southern Region Police spokesperson Muhammad Nsubuga says investigations have commenced and cautioned parents to be watchful of their children to avoid similar incidents.
