Sheema Woman, 2-Year-Old Son Killed in Suspected Domestic Arson
Police in Sheema District are investigating a tragic incident in which a 24-year-old woman and her two-year-old son died in a suspected case of arson and domestic violence.
The deceased have been identified as Tushemereirwe Julian, a resident of Rweyeshera Cell in Kyabandara Ward, Sheema Central Division, and her son, Owembabazi Active.
According to SP Tayebwa Apollo, the Greater Bushenyi Regional Police spokesperson, the incident occurred on the morning of September 23, 2025, at around 7:30 am, when Tushemereirwe’s husband, Nuwaha Godwin, 32, allegedly set their house on fire following unresolved domestic misunderstandings. The blaze killed Tushemereirwe and her son and destroyed household property.
Police responded to a distress call, managed the scene, and later transported the bodies to Kabwohe Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.
Nuwaha, who allegedly attempted to take his own life by ingesting rat poison after the attack, was rescued by police and rushed for medical attention. He was later arrested to assist with investigations.
“We are investigating the circumstances under which this unfortunate incident occurred. The suspect, Nuwaha Godwin, is in custody as inquiries continue,” said SP Tayebwa.
Police have appealed to couples and partners to seek peaceful and lawful solutions to domestic disputes rather than resorting to violence.
“This tragedy should remind the public, especially those in relationships, to resolve misunderstandings amicably and never take the law into their own hands,” SP Tayebwa emphasized.
Investigations remain ongoing, and police have pledged to keep the public updated.
