Seven Family MembersDie in Head-On Collision Along Masaka–Mbarara Highway
Seven members of the same family have died following a tragic road traffic crash that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, 27 December 2025, at about 4:30 a.m. at Njagalakasayi along the Masaka–Mbarara Highway in Lwengo District.
According to the Police Traffic Public Relations Officer, SP Michael Kananura, the crash involved a Fuso Fighter truck, registration number UBP 510V, and a Toyota Fielder, registration number UBH 476W.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver of the Toyota Fielder, who was travelling from the Masaka direction, attempted to overtake a line of vehicles and collided head-on with the oncoming Fuso truck.
All seven occupants of the Toyota Fielder died on the spot. The deceased include a man, his wife, their four children and the man’s brother.
SP Kananura urged motorists to avoid reckless overtaking, particularly at night when visibility is poor. He further advised drivers to limit night travel where possible and to ensure they are well-rested in order to prevent fatigue-related crashes.
