Police in Mukono Division are holding seven suspects in connection with alleged voter bribery that reportedly occurred on 06 January 2026 at about 16:00 hours at Happy Land Guest House, Katosi Central Cell, Katosi Ward, Katosi Town Council, Mukono District.
According to SP Kawala Racheal, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Public Relations Officer, the suspects have been identified as Nakito Moreen Birungi, a District Councillor for Mukono District; Nambowa Gorreti, aged 38; and Namayengo Madrine, aged 27, a businesswoman. All three are residents of Kizalabuganda Cell, Katosi Ward, Katosi Town Council.
The other suspects are Nakirijja Whitney, a 17-year-old student and resident of Gonve Cell, Ntanzi Ward; Tendo Samuel, aged 21; Sserwaniko Paul, aged 20; and Nakavuma Justine, aged 33, all residents of Katosi Landing Site Cell, Katosi Ward, Katosi Town Council, Mukono District.
SP Kawala stated that on the stated date and time, the suspects were allegedly found packing sugar in half-kilogram quantities at the guest house. Each package reportedly contained a pocket-sized poster bearing the name of Hon. Nsubuga Kenneth Ssegabayunga, the Democratic Party flag bearer for Mukono North Constituency in the 2026–2031 term.
The sugar was allegedly first packed in white polythene bags, after which the posters were inserted, and the packages were later repacked into black kaveras.
Police recovered exhibits including the packed sugar in both white and black kaveras, as well as posters of the parliamentary aspirant mentioned above, which have been documented as evidence.
All seven suspects have been arrested and are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
