Security Guard Arrested for Selling Live Bullets in Luwero

Police in Luwero District have arrested Okongo Alfred Owona, a 25-year-old security guard, in connection with the illegal possession of government stores, namely four live rounds of ammunition.

It is reported that on 07 January 2026 at around 07:30 hours, information was received from the supervisor of Hipos Security Company indicating that an individual had been apprehended at the company offices while attempting to sell four live bullets.

A team from Luwero Town Council Police Station, led by the Officer in Charge of Crime Intelligence, responded promptly. The suspect was re-arrested, and a body search recovered four live bullets from his jacket.

Further interrogation revealed that the suspect works for Securex Security Company Limited in Kampala, where he was deployed to guard Crown Paper Factory in Kawempe Division.

According to ASP S. Twiineamazima, the Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson, the suspect allegedly stole the ammunition from a company firearm on 02 January 2026 after completing a night shift. He reportedly handed over the firearm to a day-shift colleague, deserted his post, and later travelled to Luwero District with the intention of selling the bullets.

Police say investigations are ongoing.
