Rukungiri: Man lynched for defiling 16 year old pupil
A 20-year-old man has been lynched by an angry mob in Kashanda village, Nyarushanje parish/sub-county, Rukungiri district, for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old girl.
The victim, a pupil at Nyabushenyi Upper Primary School and a resident of the same area, is said to have been attacked by the now-deceased Wilber Ariho, in collaboration with his friend Ekyorikunda Ezra, on Tuesday evening.
Elly Maate, the PRO of Kigezi Police Region, revealed that the incident occurred at 19:30hrs at the victim’s parent’s home. The duo reportedly covered the girl’s mouth and carried her to a secluded valley with thick bushes in Nyakahanga cell. There, Ariho allegedly defiled her while Ezra restrained her by pinning down her hands.
The victim managed to escape and reported the matter to her parents, who, in turn, alerted the community. On the morning of Wednesday, 17/01/2024, locals captured the duo and subjected them to a beating, resulting in the death of Ariho Wilber.
The police were called to the scene, and intervened to rescue Ekyorikunda, who is currently in police custody.
Defilement and murder by mob cases were registered at Rubabo Police Station. The lifeless body of the deceased was handed over to Kisizi Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
