RON KAWAMARA TO STEER NSSF OUT OF TROUBLE AND TO THE PROMISED LAND

Information reaching our desk, Ron Kawamara will be recommended to the National Social Security Fund board as the cabinet nominee to lead the troubled fund.

With the end of Richard Byarugaba’s tenure at NSSF, Patrick Ayote his deputy is its Acting Managing Director. In government, there is growing support for a new breed of business executives to lead the fund as a viable company rather than a business parastatal entity.

Kawamara, an Oxford graduate, built a name for himself in East African e-commerce and was most recently the former CEO of Jumia for 9 years. He is a hospitality entrepreneur that owns and operates numerous top restaurant and hotel locations in Uganda.

The current NSSF board, key staff, and Minister of Women, Labour, and Social Development Betty Amongi are all accused of mismanaging employees’ cash.

According to reports, Statehouse has taken the lead in the hunt for the next Managing Director, implying that there is a greater urgency to restructure NSSF’s top ranks and speed efforts for the fund to represent a genuine business led by business-minded professionals.

Kawamara was unable for comment on this situation.
