President Museveni to address nation on Tuesday about Energy & Minerals Week 2020
President Yoweri Museveni will tomorrow Tuesday 1st December 2020 at 8:00pm give a National Address in commemoration of the Energy and Minerals Week 2020 that is taking place from Tuesday to Friday 4th December 2020.
According to Hon. Eng. D’ujanga the state minister for energy, the Energy & Minerals Week is an awareness centered week that is organized as part of the campaigns to encourage the sustainable utilization of energy and minerals in our country and it has been held annually for the past 15 years (since 2005).
This year, the Ministry has organized the Week to provide information regarding sector progress and achievements, Create awareness among Ugandans regarding the opportunities in the Energy and Minerals sector, provide a platform for issue-based dialogue and engagements among stakeholders and provide a platform for the promotion of the efficient and rational utilization of Energy and Minerals resources.
The theme for this year is “Energy & Minerals for Industrialization, Job Creation and shared prosperity”.
D’ujanga says the theme was carefully chosen with a focus of disseminating information in relation to strides made towards achieving the Nation Development Priorities with respect to the Energy and Minerals sector.
The minister added that the Energy and Minerals Sector is a key sector which contributes immensely to Uganda’s economic development. Energy such as electricity, petroleum products such as petrol, diesel and oil, and other forms including solar, wind, firewood, charcoal and geothermal drive production.
Some of the mineral resources Uganda is endowed with include phosphates that are used to make purely organic fertilizers for agricultural use, copper and cobalt in Kilembe, iron ore, gold, uranium and many other minerals which can be exploited to benefit our country.
A number of activities have been planned to take place during the Energy & Minerals Week 2020, which include: The Biomass Energy Dialogue, scheduled to take place on Thursday 3rd December 2020, celebration of 100 years of Geological Survey in Uganda, scheduled to take place on Thursday at Imperial Resort Beach Hotel in Entebbe, and the Power Forum, scheduled to take place on Friday 4th December 2020 at Golden Tulip Canaan Hotel.
