President Yoweri Museveni and India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar on Monday held discussions at Rwakitura in Kiruhura District to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.

President Museveni expressed his satisfaction with the good relations between the two countries and welcomed the Minister to Uganda. The two leaders discussed possible areas of cooperation, including minerals, agro-business and defence.

He also highlighted the benefits of investing in Uganda, such as the availability of a wider and ready market for products.

Dr Jaishankar, on his part, suggested that Uganda should send a delegation to India to interest Indians in possible business opportunities in Uganda. He also discussed the potential for cooperation in digital governance and the importation of millet.

The Minister requested President Museveni’s support for India’s quest to join the UN Security Council and urged member countries of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to focus on common issues such as health and food security during the next summit in Uganda.

The meeting was attended by Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Jeje Odongo and The Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Hon. Vincent Ssempijja Bamulangaki.
