Police Roll Out Tight Security Measures for Kampala MP Nominations

The Kampala Metropolitan Police have announced a series of security measures to ensure a peaceful and orderly nomination process for Members of Parliament slated for tomorrow, Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd October 2025.

According to SSP Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Police and sister security agencies have jointly deployed personnel and intelligence teams at all nomination centers within the metropolitan area to maintain law and order throughout the exercise.

“We have put in place comprehensive security measures to ensure a peaceful and safe process. Police, together with intelligence services, will be deployed at nomination centers to prevent disruptions,” SSP Onyango said in a statement.

The measures include crowd control, monitoring of gatherings, and ensuring a safe distance between candidates, their supporters, and other stakeholders. Intelligence agencies have also been tasked with gathering and analyzing information on potential threats to preempt any security incidents.

Police will work closely with officials from the Electoral Commission to ensure that the nomination process is conducted strictly in line with electoral laws and established guidelines.

Onyango urged candidates and their agents to cooperate with security personnel during and after the nominations.

“Candidates or their agents should work closely with Police. If they plan to hold any rally after the nomination, they should inform Police about the venue and time in advance,” he advised.

The Police also released a detailed traffic management plan for the nomination exercise at the Electoral Commission headquarters in Ntinda: Candidates will access the premises through Kyambogo traffic lights, using the Ntinda–Kyambogo junction.

A cutoff point will be established immediately after the traffic lights. Parking will be available at the International School near Canon Road. After nomination, candidates will be escorted by Police via Nalya roundabout on the Northern Bypass toward UNEB.

According to Onyango, candidates will not be allowed to access the city center after their nomination, and they can only bring two motor vehicles and six supporters to the venue.

He appealed to all candidates and supporters to adhere to the set guidelines to avoid congestion and ensure safety for all.

Earlier today, the electoral commission announced that the general election shall be held on 15th January 2026.
