Police Recover Four-Month-Old Baby Kidnapped in Mbarara City

The police of Mbarara City North Division, in coordination with the Flying Squad Unit, have successfully recovered a four-month-old child identified as Musika Ayan from a kidnapper.

Musika, the son of Namatovu Sifa and Bombo Bruhan, residents of Rwebihuro Cell in Rwimigina Ward, Mbarara City, was recovered today, December 10, 2024, at about 1:19 PM from Kagaga Parish, Igarama Subcounty, Isingiro District.

The child was abducted from his caretaker on December 9, 2024, at around 11:00 AM while the mother was working as a vendor in Koranorya Market.

It is alleged that the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Aineamani Mackline, tricked the caretaker by sending her to a shop to buy yogurt. Upon her return, the suspect had vanished with the child.

According to SP Kasasira Samson, the PRO Rwizi, officers, with the assistance of the Flying Squad Unit, tracked the suspect and apprehended her in Isingiro District, where she had allegedly taken the baby to present to her husband as their own.

Reports indicate that Aineamani had separated from her husband but lied to him, claiming she was pregnant at the time of their separation. She later fabricated the story of giving birth, which led her husband and mother-in-law to pressure her to bring the baby home.

This prompted the suspect to steal the child and present him as her own. The victim has since been reunited with his mother.

“We caution members of the public to remain vigilant regarding the movements of their children and those around them,” authorities warned.
