Police Recover Bodies of Three Men Who Drowned in Lake Kwania
The bodies of three people who drowned on August 8, 2024, in Lake Kwania in Ojur Cell, Amuda Eastern Ward, Agwata Town Council, Dokolo District, have been retrieved. The incident allegedly occurred around 10:00 a.m.
The deceased have been identified as Otwii Ronald, a 24-year-old resident of Ojur Cell, Amuda Ward, Agwata Town Council; Okwada Ayubentine, a 25-year-old resident of Odipawigweng Village, Arioti Pariaga, Agali Sub-County, Lira District; and another individual identified only as Okao, a 26-year-old resident of Ojur Cell, Amuda Eastern Ward, Agwata Town Council, Dokolo.
According to Patrick Jimmy Okema, SP and PRO-North Kyoga, it is reported that Okwada had come with his parents to attend a burial ceremony in Dokolo on August 7, 2024.
The group spent the night and rose very early on the morning of August 8, 2024, to return to their home, accompanied by their relatives Otwii and Okao. However, the three men first went to the nearby Lake Kwania for bathing but never returned.
A case of drowning was registered at Agwata Police Post, and officers led by the OC Station visited the scene. The bodies of the deceased were retrieved from the lake and conveyed to Dokolo Health Centre IV for postmortem as investigations into the matter continue.
Okema advised visitors to new areas to seek guidance before engaging in activities like swimming in large water bodies.
