Police Probe Murder by Strangulation, Aggravated Robbery in Rukiga
The Police in Rukiga District have launched investigations into the gruesome murder of a 28-year-old boda boda rider, who was reportedly strangled before his motorcycle was stolen.
The deceased, identified as Henry Mugume, also known as Kaboy, a resident of Kirimbe Cell, Kandago Parish, Bukinda Sub-county in Rukiga District, was found dead on Thursday morning, September 18, 2025, along the Muhanga–Ntungamo highway.
According to police, Mugume was last seen at around 2:00 a.m. on the same night at Rukiga Campus Bar, where he reportedly appeared intoxicated. He was riding a motorcycle registered UMA 409AG, belonging to a resident of Rwamucucu Sub-county, identified as Nyegyess Memory.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, said the victim’s body was discovered with a rope tightly tied around his neck, indicating that he had been strangled. The motorcycle was missing from the scene but was reportedly stolen 50 meters away from where the body was found.
Police were alerted by Naturinda Bright, the chairman of boda boda riders in Muhanga Town Council, who reported the incident. Crime scene officers examined, documented, and processed the scene before transferring the body to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examination.
