Police Probe Mob Killing of Two Suspected Goat Thieves in Mukono
Police in Mukono District are investigating a mob action that left two suspected goat thieves dead in the early hours of September 17, 2025.
The incident occurred at around 2:15 a.m. in Bumbajja Village, Kiyoola Parish, Nakisunga Subcounty, when residents intercepted two men alleged to have stolen goats. The suspects were reportedly riding a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UDZ 132/D, and were found in possession of three goats.
One of the deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Mayanja, a resident of Gamba Village, Kitente Parish, Nakisunga Subcounty. The second victim remains unidentified.
According to police, the goats are believed to have been stolen from Shibabani Ibra, a resident of Gamba Village in Katente, Nakisunga. When the suspects attempted to flee, the mob pursued them, eventually beating them to death.
The recovered motorcycle and goats were handed over to police as exhibits. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
A case of murder by mob action has been registered at Kisoga Police Station. Police said they documented the scene and recorded statements from witnesses, including the goat owner.
Police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, SSP Patrick Onyango, condemned the mob action and confirmed that officers responded to the scene twice after receiving reports of the violent incident.
