Police Probe Double Murder of Mother and Child in Mbarara
Police in Mbarara City are investigating the brutal murder of 42-year-old Kyomugisha Scovia, a resident of Alliance Trading Centre, Kakoba Central Cell, and her three-year-old daughter, Amumpaire Gift.
The two were reportedly stabbed to death in their rented room around 3:00 a.m. on the night of July 13, 2025.
According to SP Samson Kasasira, the Police PRO for the Rwizi Region, Kyomugisha had been living with her three children in the house.
It is alleged that on July 8, 2025, at around 6:30 a.m., while at her residence, a man identified as Akampa Ambrose, alleged to be the father of one of her children, attempted to harm the child. The matter was reported to police, and Akampa was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
However, following his arrest, Kyomugisha began receiving death threats from Akampa’s associates.
On Saturday, July 12, 2025, one of his friends, identified as Black Onesmus, reportedly attacked Kyomugisha in broad daylight and set her clothes on fire.
Then, in the early hours of July 14, 2025, at around 3:00 a.m., the same suspect is believed to have returned to her home and fatally stabbed Kyomugisha and her three-year-old daughter while they were asleep.
The bodies were recovered and taken to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination. Police say efforts to apprehend the suspect are ongoing.
