Police Probe Deaths of Four Family Members in Nakapiripirit Amid Poisoning Fears
Police in Nakapiripirit District, Moroto Region, are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths of four family members due to suspected poisoning.
The incident was reported on Thursday morning in Lorengelup village, Nakapiripirit Town Council, Nakapiripirit District.
IP Longole Mike, the Acting PRO for Mt Moroto/ASTU, identified the deceased as Ekwam Francis, 42 years old; Akiliat Asingo, 38 years old; Ekwam Emma, 10 years old; and Mugara Teddy, 5 years old.
Meanwhile, Adubo Modesta, a 2-year-old child, is hospitalized in critical condition at Tokora Health Centre IV.
According to Longole, it is alleged that on August 6, 2024, Ekwam Francis and his wife, Akiliat Asingo, now deceased, were at their shop when they suddenly began quarreling in the presence of their 8-year-old daughter, Nadunga Catherine.
Later that evening, the couple bought fish in town to prepare at home. It is reported that apart from Nadunga, the rest of the family ate the fish.
Unfortunately, on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at around 7:30 a.m., their neighbor, Adiaka Fontiano, saw Nadunga coming out of the house alone.
When asked about her parents, Nadunga alleged that they were still sleeping. The neighbor then proceeded to check inside the house and found all four family members dead.
Police were called to the scene and conveyed all the bodies to Tokora Health Centre IV for postmortem. Officers also collected food samples from the deceased for analysis. Longole added that inquiries have commenced to determine the cause of their deaths.
