Police officer in Kassanda shoots and injures superior before committing suicide

The police in Kassanda are investigating an incident in which a police officer attempted to kill his supervisor before turning a gun on himself.

The deceased has been identified as No. 1037 PC Kitiyo Alex, a 47-year-old resident of Makokoto Trading Center attached to Makokoto Police Post

According to ASP Kawala Racheal, the Police Public Relations Officer, the police officer turned his weapon on his superior before taking his own life.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred in the early hours of 24/05/2023 at approximately 5:00 am when PC Kitiyo allegedly entered the room of his in-charge, Inspector of Police John Kakooza, and opened fire without uttering a single word, leaving the superior officer in a critical condition.

After the assault, PC Kitiyo retreated to his own room, where he sat on his bed before taking his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The reasons behind this tragic sequence of events remain unknown at this time.

Kawala says they responded to the scene of the crime, and a task team has been assigned to thoroughly investigate the incident.

She added that relevant statements are being recorded to aid in the ongoing investigation.
