Police Officer in Custody for Assaulting Female Shop Attendant in Kyanja

The Uganda Police Force has confirmed the arrest of one of its own officers, ASP Clive Nsiima, attached to the Counter Terrorism Directorate under the Oil and Gas Protection Unit, for assaulting an employee of Shell Select Shop in Kyanja, a suburb of Kampala.

On Tuesday, a video circulated on social media showing Nsiima assaulting a female attendant.

According to ACP Kituuma Rusoke, the Police PRO, preliminary investigations indicate that ASP Nsiima is the suspect.

“The officer has been apprehended and detained in police custody. He will be brought to account as soon as investigations are complete,” Rusoke said.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday afternoon, ACP Rusoke confirmed that police are in contact with the victim and witnesses. He also condemned the officer’s actions, noting that they contravene the police disciplinary code.

Regarding reports that the officer had pending criminal cases, ACP Rusoke stated that he was unaware of such cases, emphasising that police are currently focusing on investigating this incident.
