Police Officer commits suicide by hanging in Arua
The police in Arua City are investigating the circumstances under which one of their own officers committed suicide by hanging.
The deceased is Number 59993 PC Aluma Martin, attached to FFU Arua CPS who committed suicide at an unknown time in the night between 22nd and 23rd of April 2022 in Ayiko cell, Alivu ward, Ayivu division, Arua City.
According to Josephine Angucia the PRO West Nile Region, it is alleged that on the night of 22/04/2022 at around 8 pm, the deceased handed over the key to his motor vehicle to a woman he was staying with and informed her that he was going on a journey.
However, this morning 23/04/2022 at around 6 am, he was found hanging on a tree in mission cell, Komite ward, Ayivu West division, Arua City, by a resident of the area.
The District Police Commanders of Ayivu West and Arua Central Divisions rushed to the scene with their teams and took the body to Arua Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Investigations have started to find out the circumstances that led to the incident. Inquiries into the matter continue at Onduparaka Police Station.
Angucia noted that officers and members of the public should know that suicide is not the solution to earthly problems and frustrations and urged them to seek counselling and help from close friends, relatives or professionals so as to prevent such incidents.
