Police Nab 21 Over Robberies, Theft and Drug Use in Kabale

The Police in Kabale District have arrested 21 suspects in an ongoing crackdown on criminal gangs accused of terrorising residents of Kabale Municipality and surrounding areas.

According to police, the suspects face allegations ranging from robbery, burglary, theft, bag snatching, and possession of opium. Some of those arrested are said to be repeat offenders who had recently been released from Ndorwa Prison, while others were on the security wanted list.

The intelligence-led operations were conducted between Friday and Monday night, targeting crime hotspots such as Mwisi in Kitumba Sub-county, Kigongi area, the stadium neighbourhood, and Mwanjari.

Police identified some of the key suspects as: Owamani Martin, Asiimwe Osbert, Kirabo Alex, Aryamba Elijah, and Byaruhanga Ronald – all linked to different robbery cases.

Others, including Akankwasa Martin, Nuwagaba Joshua, Naturinda Obedi, and Akankwasa Gerald, were arrested for having and smoking opium.

During searches at their residences, police recovered several stolen items, including laptops, TVs, gas cylinders, clothes, and other household property. These have been brought to Kabale Central Police Station, where the public has been urged to come forward and identify their belongings.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate noted that operations will continue across the region until criminal elements are rooted out.

“We call upon residents to cooperate with security and local leaders by sharing information that can lead to the arrest of suspected wrongdoers in their communities,” ASP Maate said.
