Police Investigating Death of 64-Year-Old University Lecturer

The Police at Kira Road Division are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of Dr. Tom Patrick Mugizi, a 64-year-old lecturer at Victoria University and MUBS, and a resident of Kisota Zone, Kikaaya Parish, Nakawa Division, Kampala District.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy PRO for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the incident was reported on 3rd January 2026 by the deceased’s sister, Nsasiirwe Annet Runtemu, after concern arose when he could not be reached by phone from 31st December 2025.

Nsasiirwe then requested a neighbour to check on him, who found the deceased lying dead in his bed in a decomposing state. The house was found open, with no property missing.

Owoyesigyire said police officers visited and documented the scene, recorded statements from relevant witnesses, and conveyed the body to Mulago City Mortuary for post-mortem examination.

However, preliminary observations indicate that the deceased had a history of chronic illness.
