Police Investigate Violence Between Bugingo, Kyeyune Supporters in Nakasongola

Police in Nakasongola District are investigating an assault incident that occurred on January 11, 2026, at the Kakooge Town Council taxi park, following a clash between supporters of Mr Stephen Bugingo and Mr Ivan Kyeyune, both candidates for the Nakasongola Constituency Parliamentary election.

According to the Savannah Region Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sam Twiineamazima, Mr. Bugingo had earlier held a rally at the venue, addressing his supporters until about 6:00 p.m. However, as his team was leaving, supporters of Mr Kyeyune arrived at the taxi park in two groups of boda bodas.

The first group reportedly shouted at Mr. Bugingo’s supporters before riding back into the crowd, later joined by the second group. The confrontation provoked a fight that left several of Mr. Bugingo’s supporters injured.

ASP Twiineamazima said that upon receiving the information, the Officer in Charge of the station and a team of officers responded promptly, restoring calm and bringing the situation under control.

A case of assault has been opened against the suspects. Statements have been recorded from the victims, and three suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the violence. The search for additional suspects is ongoing.

Meanwhile, victims who had not yet been identified were rushed to St. Francis Health Center IV for treatment.

“The public is urged to remain peaceful and refrain from actions that may lead to violence. Police will continue investigations and take appropriate action against those found culpable,” ASP Twiineamazima said.
