Police Investigate Two Mysterious Deaths in Bushenyi District

The police in Bushenyi are investigating the suspected murder of Kawesi Vincent, a 25-year-old student at Uganda Technical College – Kahaya in Bushenyi District.

According to Martial Tumusiime, the Police PRO for the Greater Bushenyi Region, Kawesi left campus for leisure on the evening of March 18, 2025. However, his body was discovered lying by the roadside in Kahaya village, Rwentuha Town Council, along the Bushenyi-Mbarara Highway on March 19, 2025, at around 7:30 am.

Residents reported the matter to Rwentuha Police Station, prompting officers to visit the scene, examine it, and record statements from witnesses. The body was later transferred to the KIU Teaching Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Tumusiime stated that Kawesi’s body was found lying face down, with blood oozing from his mouth and nose. His neck appeared loose, but there were no visible external injuries. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of death.

Separate Incident in Ishaka

Meanwhile, police in Ishaka have launched investigations into the death of Kyokubanza Abel, also known as Matama, a 45-year-old resident of Kisenyi, Ishaka Division in Bushenyi District.

According to Tumusiime, on March 19, 2025, at around 3:00 pm, a 9-year-old child discovered a man’s lifeless body behind a building in Basajja, Ishaka town, following a heavy downpour. The deceased, who was wearing an NRM T-shirt, was spotted by the child, who then informed nearby residents. The residents alerted the GISO of Ishaka Division, who in turn notified the police.

A team of detectives, SOCO, and uniformed officers visited, examined, and documented the crime scene, while statements were recorded from some witnesses. The body, was taken to Kitagata Hospital for a postmortem examination.

According to Naturinda Mollen, the deceased had been living on the streets of Ishaka after moving from Mitooma District about five years ago. She noted that Matama had been sick and was recently seen seeking a letter from the LC1 office to access medical treatment.

Tumusiime confirmed that there were no visible external injuries on the body. Police are currently searching for his relatives and working to establish the cause of death.
