Police Investigate Theft, Assault and Attempted Rape During Museveni Rally
The Police in Busia have launched investigations into a series of criminal incidents, including Threatening Violence, Assault, Attempted Rape, and Theft, which occurred on 15th November 2025 during a presidential rally at Buwanda Cell, Masafu Town Council.
According to IP Mugwe J. Moses, the Regional Police PRO for the Bukedi South Region, the first incident involved the theft of a mobile phone and cash belonging to Nakilyowa Brenda, a 24-year-old waitress and resident of Sofia “A” Village in Busia District.
Nakilyowa told police that while attending the rally addressed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, her Samsung Galaxy A14 valued at UGX 300,000 and cash amounting to UGX 40,000 were stolen.
Police arrested three suspects, Mukisa Isaac, Kibwika Suleiman, and Abdul Aziz Twaha, who were allegedly found in possession of the stolen items. The case was registered at Masafu Police Station as investigations continue.
In a separate incident, ASP Hasahya Joshua, the Officer in Charge of Masafu Police Station, detained three men, Sande Joshua, Bwire Suleiman, and Wanyama Brian, for allegedly threatening a police officer. The offence is said to have occurred at around 12:30 pm at the same rally venue.
Another case under inquiry involves the assault of an SFC soldier. According to No. 40009 Cpl Omaido Paul, a police officer attached to Busia Police Station, suspects Chunga James and Hiire Mwimbu allegedly attacked the soldier at about 10:00 am.
Police also confirmed the arrest of one Mugeni Ronald, who was apprehended by members of the public for the alleged attempted rape of a woman during the rally. Efforts are underway to trace the victim so that a formal complaint can be recorded.
In total, nine suspects were arrested in connection with the various incidents. Exhibits, including the stolen mobile phone, were recovered and processed. Statements have been obtained from both complainants and suspects, and the detainees have since been transferred from Masafu Police Station to Busia Police Station for further management.
Preliminary findings suggest that the suspects came from different villages and took advantage of the large crowds gathered for the rally to commit crimes.
Mugwe says inquiries are ongoing, and additional updates will be provided as investigations progress.
