Police Investigate Death of Woman in Rubanda House Fire

Police in Rubanda District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Naturinda Precious, a 40-year-old resident of Rurengere Cell, Nyaruhanga Ward, Rubanda Town Council.

The incident occurred on 14th July 2025 at an unknown time.

According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, it is alleged that the area LC1 Chairperson, Mr. Mukasa Fred, received information at around 8:30 a.m. indicating that the deceased’s house was on fire.

Residents quickly mobilized and managed to extinguish the flames, assuming that Naturinda was not inside at the time, as she was known to frequently be away from home.

Naturinda was reportedly a habitual alcohol consumer and often absent from her residence.

However, at around 5:00 p.m., the chairperson received another phone call suggesting that the deceased might have perished in the fire, after what appeared to be human remains were discovered in the debris.

Upon confirmation, the matter was reported to the police, who responded to the scene, conducted examinations, and documented evidence.

According to Maate, preliminary findings indicate that the deceased was a known drug user and was believed to have suffered from mental health challenges.

Investigations into the exact cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding Naturinda’s death are ongoing.
