Police Intensify Operations in Kampala and Surrounding Districts, Multiple Arrests Made

Police across the Kampala Metropolitan Area and surrounding districts have conducted coordinated operations, resulting in numerous arrests and the recovery of exhibits, as part of efforts to curb crime and enhance public safety.

According to Kawala Racheal, Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP):

On 24 February 2026, at around 8:00 PM, police in Kira Division, Wakiso District, conducted operations in Mulawa Trading Centre and Najjera Kamwanyi, arresting 81 suspects.

On the same day, between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM, operations in Kisenyi Zone, Muza Zone, and surrounding areas of Old Kampala Division led to 152 arrests.

Later, at approximately 11:00 PM, operations in Center Zone, Kaggo Buyinja, Kinawataka (Nakawa Division), and Jinja Road Division, Nakawa, resulted in 20 arrests.

Additional operations on 24 February 2026 included:

Wakiso Town, Wakiso Police Division – 23 arrests at approximately 5:00 PM.

Bulenga Area, Wakiso (covering Musoke Road, Kawuzi Street, Gogonya, and Kikaaya Katogo) – 50 arrests between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM.

Kajjansi Police Division, Wakiso District – operations in Kilyamuli, Kilumba, and Namulanda Ward, Kajjansi Town Council, resulted in 6 arrests at around 5:00 PM.

On 25 February 2026:

Operations in Universal Kisaasi Sector, Kamwokya, and Kyebando, Kira Road Division, led to 49 arrests.

At around 12:30 AM, Nansana Police carried out operations resulting in 48 arrests.

During these operations, police recovered exhibits including opium rolls, breaking implements, and suspected house-breaking tools.

Kawala says that all suspects are currently in police custody, with cases of possession of opium and public nuisance opened. The suspects will be screened and produced before court in due course.
